Documents vs. memories
Which resource to write to, and why it matters.
Both end up searchable. Pick by who owns the source of truth.
| Documents | Memories | |
|---|---|---|
| Source of truth | Your system (wiki, CRM, help desk…) | Synqed |
| Identity | (source, external_id) — your id | Synqed id |
| Writes | Upsert: re-pushing updates in place | Append: each call records a new memory |
| Size | Up to 200,000 characters | Up to 10,000 characters |
| Typical writer | A sync job | An agent at the end of a task |
Use documents to mirror content that lives elsewhere. Your sync job sends whatever it has; Synqed keeps exactly one copy per (source, external_id) and re-indexes on change. Delete it when the original is deleted.
Use memories for things that only exist because an agent or person concluded them: "we chose Postgres over Dynamo because of the reporting joins", or "the billing service retries webhooks three times with exponential backoff". Secrets in memory text are redacted before storage.
